As the film will be set in the near future, I think that it would be unsuitable to use purely present-day weapons and props; the mise-en-scene needs to be constructed with a distinctly "techno" tone, meaning that props to suit this tone are necessary. In addition, one of the running themes in the movie is the technological advancement of military hardware - and more advanced (or at least, more advanced-looking) equipment will be instrumental in showing this.
On that note, let's start with guns; the main character isn't a person who necessarily likes going for the biggest or loudest explosion, and prefers an espionage-esque stealth kill over the Schwarzenegger-style "kill-'em-all" approach. It's not primarily an action movie, after all, and the fact that smaller, weaker weapons need to be used at close range means that we can use the character's preference for this type of gun to create very claustrophobic chase and combat scenes. As for the main character's gun itself, I was thinking that it should be something along the lines of a handgun-type device - though it needs to look futuristic; ridges, layered sheets of metal, slightly alien-looking aesthetics and the like, though owing to the film's dark tone, it can't be too polished or shiny. It also needs to have something of a grungy, gloomy feel to its appearance; something along the lines of this:
As other props go, we would need a Bluetooth-styled earpiece (or even something more discreet, seeing as it's the future) for the character to talk through when he puts his hand to his ear; it needs to have the same sort of futuristic aesthetic that the gun has, although Bluetooth earpieces usually look deliberately "futuristic" anyway. Something small, black, and maybe with some sort of LED light on it. Like this:
